Flipkart Axis Bank Credit Card Review 2021

Updated: Sep 19, 2021

Flipkart Axis Bank Credit Card is another great offering from Axis bank. The star feature of this card is its unlimited 1.5% cash back. Axis Bank has changed the game and its cashback system is simpler than reward points and more lucrative too. If you have any Flipkart expenses you can consider holding this card, heck you can consider holding it even if you don’t.

Eligibility

For Salaried people the monthly income required is greater than Rs. 15000.

For Self-Employed people the monthly income required is Rs. 30,000 or higher.

This is a lenient eligibility criterion considering the benefits this card is offering.

Annual Fee

The annual fee of this card is Rs 500+ taxes (Rs. 100) which will be billed in the first month’s statement.

Annual fee is waived off for the next year if your spends exceed Rs 2 lac. This is a bit on the higher side. But considering you get lounge access, you can consider keeping this card even while paying the annual fees.

Welcome Offer

The present (limited time) offer is you will get Rs 1000 Flipkart gift voucher if you apply through its app. (Rs 500 Flipkart gift card on card approval and again after 1st transaction with card).

The link to the offer is here.

The general offer is that you will get Rs 500 Flipkart Gift voucher to compensate for the fees on your first transaction done within 30 days of card issuance.

The following are additional welcome offers

  • 15% off on Myntra on first transaction using same card

  • Complementary Gaana membership

  • 50% off on Swiggy on first transaction

Lounge Access

Domestic: 4 complimentary lounge access per year valid at the following locations.

The list of lounges includes all of the metro cities.

International Lounge Access is not provided on this card

Credit Card Benefits

  • 5% cash back on Flipkart, Myntra and 2GUD

This deal competes with SBI yono portal or Yescart portal which give savings in the 5 to 10% range. Where Flipkart Axis Bank credit card wins, is it’s the only one which is unlimited or uncapped. HDFC’s smart buy loses steam as it gives only 1% cash back on flipkart other than its regular points.

  • 4% cash back on Uber, Makemytrip, goibibo, etc

Even though this list is long, only uber is the one which is worthwhile. For the rest you can easily find better offers. For uber, you can buy uber gift vouchers on Amazon which are available at 3% discount. This is not a better offer, but useful in case you do not hold this card.

To get the 4% cash back on Makemytrip and Goibibo you need to use the promocode “MMTEXCLUSIVE” and “GOEXCLUSIVE” in the respective transactions. The Offer is valid on 1 booking per card per month for one category of booking. For eg domestic flights and international flights both can be booked in one month as they are from different categories. The different categories are domestic and international flights, hotels, cabs, bus and holidays.

  • 1.5% cash back on all other transactions except fuel, wallet and jewelry.

  • The cash backs are unlimited.

  • The cash back is rounded off to the nearest rupee.

  • Cashback earned for the purchases during the current billing cycle will be credited in the next billing cycle 3 days prior to the statement generation date.

Fuel Surcharge waiver

This card does not give any fuel surcharge waiver. 1% plus additional taxes will be added on top of any fuel expenses. This card has all the makings of being your primary card except this essential benefit.

Savings Calculator

Considering expenses of Rs. 20000 per month, you can easily save more than 3 percent.

You can add your own expenses category wise to find out your savings from the below table.

If the Calculator doesn't run, click here and run again :)

Conclusion

This is a solid card for everyday transactions giving generous cash back of 1.5% which can only be beat by Axis Ace credit card (2%). Also I find that Flipkart is generally having lesser prices compared to Amazon for same item making the 5% cash back a bit more valuable.

Similar or better cards

Axis Ace credit card can be considered if you do not have significant spends on Flipkart. Surprisingly, Yes bank’s yescart gives 10X points on flipkart as well as amazon transactions. If you hold Yes First Preferred or even Yes Premia credit card the savings will be 10% and 7.5% respectively beating the flipkart axis bank credit card at its home battleground.
